I Don't Wear Brooches! A Series on Ways to Repurpose Vintage Brooches

One of the biggest things I hear while at shows is that people love to look at vintage pins and brooches and they think they're awesome, but they don't wear brooches. Well I say if you think about brooches in a traditional sense you're really limiting their possibilities! I've created a series about simple, quick ways you can transform a vintage brooch into something you will use and wear. This is post one.

The Brooch as a Necklace

Many vintage brooches actually come with a place to attach a chain so you can use it as a pin or a necklace, giving you versatility. If your favorite vintage brooch doesn't come with a chain or a hook don't fret! There are a couple of options you have here.

Option 1) Dig through your existing necklaces and find one that would work well with the brooch you have in mind and add the brooch to it.

Like this example:

You take a simple strand of pearls, attach the brooch slightly off-side of the strand and you have a beautiful accent piece!

Or this example where you'd attach the brooch to a fun bright colored strand:

Within a matter of minutes you have a whole new necklace and one that's easy to interchange and mix and match.

So the next time you see a vintage brooch, don't hesitate - you can really wear it!

Stay tuned for the next idea!

  1. I like the idea for this series, never would have thought of wearing a brooch on a strand of beads like this, will have to try it out soon.

Every sweater, jacket or coat I own sports a vintage brooch or pin. I also rock them on dresses!

    1. I think more people should do the same - it's funny how just adding a brooch can make you feel better or brighten up any outfit!

  2. Vintage brooches can also be worn on hats and to secure a beautiful scarf OR on a cuff as a bracelet!! They are works of art that can be hung vertically on a piece of satin ribbon in a powder room too. Possibilities........ENDLESS!!

  4. @(Ri)Charmed and @Got Milk Glass - Thanks! I feel like I can be creative, but still keep the integrity of the brooch with these ideas, which makes me happy!
